Among global clients is a leading American company specializing in procurement services. They optimize and monetize the purchasing and supply management of large industries around the world. The company wanted to enhance its digital presence to better serve its international audience.

Problem Statement

To broaden their reach and to enhance the user experience further, the client wanted to offer their SuiteCommerce Standard (SCS) website in multiple languages.  

Their primary goal was to enhance the user experience. They wanted to provide a seamless way to allow their customers to switch between English, Spanish, and Portuguese smoothly. In this regard, all content pages of the website should be translated, as per the selected language by the user for more personalized and accessible use.

What We Suggested

To meet the client’s multilingual requirements, we proposed implementing a language Selector extension for their NetSuite SuiteCommerce Standard website. This would easily enable customers to switch from one of their preferred languages – English, Spanish, and Portuguese – that they could use while browsing the website. This ensures a tailor-made experience for each language preference.      

Our solution involved the following steps:

Multilanguage Selector:

We proposed adding a language selector dropdown in the website’s header. This would enable the users to choose their preferred language. The selection made by a user would be remembered as the user‘s preference for future visits.

Item Import in NetSuite:

The translation tab has details of over two lakh items. They rely on the required languages. Users can add additional languages in future by importing the item descriptions in the desired language.

Language-Specific Pages:

The system automatically translates all pages on the website. They include the homepage, storefront and other information changes. The system loads the pages automatically based on the user’s language preference. This provides a continuity in experience.

Challenges

Implementing multilanguage support in a SuiteCommerce Standard website presented several challenges:  

  • Single Domain: As the website operates on a single domain, it may support just one language. To overcome the limitation and accommodate multiple languages, we have customized it by adding an extension for handling multiple languages.
  • User Preferences: The solution included storing and recalling the user’s language preferences so that after logging in again, the user does not have to reset his preferred language. We customized the system to store and correctly remember the language choice of each user during future logins.
